I’ve had doctors, nutritionists, and friends ask me for this smoothie recipe so I’m officially making a place to point them. I now make this smoothie daily. It contains 25 grams of protein, 25 grams of fiber (that’s the entire daily recommendation for women!), and is only net 21 grams of carbs. That ground flax seed also exceeds the daily recommendation for Omega 3s, which is great for those of us who can’t eat any fish.
Fair warning: this smoothie it is not a pretty color. Red berries and stone fruit + greens make… brown. But it has a great flavor profile (I am PICKY, people) and doesn’t taste particularly “healthy” so it’s become a really doable way for me to guarantee a lot of nutrients in my day. It’s a particularly useful way to easily round out the nutritional profile of a low-carb or carnivore diet, and it doesn’t contain any dairy or protein powder. This smoothie fits in my schedule as an afternoon snack, but it would make a good breakfast, too–especially since you can easily take it on your commute or to your desk.
My Famous Daily Smoothie
Notes
*Optional, but I find it helps a lot to cover the bitterness of the spinach.
Ingredients
- 4-5 frozen strawberries
- 5-6 frozen cherries (or equivalent volume of frozen blueberries)
- 1/2 avocado, fresh or frozen
- 1 handful (1 cup or more) fresh spinach
- 1 T chia seeds
- 1 T ground flax seed
- 1 T hemp hearts
- 1 t psyllium fiber
- 1 c elderberry & juniper kombucha (any flavor you prefer is fine)
- 1/4 c pineapple juice*
- 1/4c beef collagen peptides
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth. When using an individual-sized blender it is best to add ingredients in the order listed so when inverted the heaviest items will push other items into the blades.
